Working out on the road
For work, I spend about 1-2 weeks per month traveling. That is actually one of the reasons I took my corporate job. I have been blessed and have been able to travel to and visit 19 different states, all paid for by my company.
Some of the travel is fun and exciting and a little glamorous. And sometimes it's not. Sometimes it involves canceled and delayed flights or a different hotel every night, in tiny towns in rural Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin driving through snow, wind and rain. But even on the hardest trip I come away with a new experience or lesson learned about myself.
To keep myself sane, I stick to my routine as much as possible when I travel. That includes getting my work outs in. It can be difficult when traveling, because I can't bring all of my gear with me. But over the years I have learned some tricks to keep me on track.
For starters I try to book hotels with a decent gym. I never book a hotel without checking out the TripAdvisor reviews. I scroll through the hundreds of pictures to see if someone snapped a pic of the work out room. What I love most is working out with free weights so I scan all the pictures to see if they have them. In small cities, the hotel choices are limited. But in bigger cities I can usually find something with dumbbells. But as long as they have a treadmill or elliptical I can make it work.
I also stream workouts online that I can do in my hotel room. I love BeachbodyonDemand because I can access it anywhere there is WiFi and they have lots of options that don't require anything other than me. I can simply pick a yoga work out or some cardio and get my workout done in my hotel room. This is also great when I forget to pack my workout shoes!
I often travel with a few small, lightweight items to help me upgrade my work out. I love these sliders because they add some resistance and help me change up my workout to use different muscles. Plus they are small and light so I can throw them in my suitcase without taking up a lot of space.
Here are a few moves you can do with these bad boys! Do each of the moves 15 times for 3 sets. You can even add light to medium weights to up the intensity even more!
If you have enjoyed this post or liked the work out, I'd be grateful if you would share it with someone you know who would like it too!
And please share your favorite on the road work out tips!
