Easy and healthy travel snacks
My work requires quite a lot of travel. I actually love it! I have seen so many parts of the country I never would have thanks to my corporate job. For example, Minot, ND. Did you know Minot has a super cool Scandinavian Heritage Park? Yeah. Neither did I. Here are 2 pictures I snapped from there.
But finding healthy food can sometimes be a challenge. I will say, airports have definitely stepped up their game in the last 2-3 years for sure. They offer a lot more variety in healthy foods from the restaurants as well as in the stores. You can find lots of nuts, dried fruit and fruit and veggie cups.
The only drawback is that those healthy options still come with the airport price tag. In what world does a cup of celery sticks and baby carrots cost $8.99?! The time and space vortex known as The Airport.
To keep things healthy, and save a few dollars, I have a few items that I always bring with me when I travel.
Macadamia Nuts-I love pretty much every kind of nut there is but these are my favorite. They are full of healthy fat that keeps you satisfied longer which is great for running through airports. My favorite ones are the roasted Archer Farms macadamia nuts from Target!
My insulated water bottle-I never leave home without my water bottle. But what is great is that most airports offer filtered water dispensers which makes filling my water bottle up after security a breeze. I don't spend a ton on a bottle of water and help cut down on my plastic use. Win-win!
Four Sigmatic instant mushroom coffee packs-If you have never heard of this company you have to check them out. They make different mushroom elixirs including coffee blended with mushrooms and mushroom hot cocoas. Coffee at hotels is not known to be the best. With these instant coffee packets I can have great tasting coffee that I know wasn't grown with pesticides and insecticides. Plus I don't get that crazy caffeine crash from this coffee!
Super food/protein powder-I drink Shakeology everyday. I don't think it's the right option for everyone, but it is for me. So when I travel, I make sure to bring some with me. They sell individual packets but I just measure out servings into little baggies and throw them in my bag. I pack a shaker bottle also, then all I need is some water and bam! Instant snack or lite meal full of nutrients.
RX Bars-These bars are delicious and are only made with a few ingredients which I love!
