I couldn't possibly eat another! What to do if you overeat
To me, Halloween is the official kick-off date to the holiday season. Is anyone else with me on this one? This is a season of fun, hustle and bustle, decorations, time spent with family and friends, parties, ugly sweater contests and eating. Lots of eating.
For most people a party or gathering isn't complete without yummy snacks and treats. And the holidays bring a time to create and enjoy family favorite recipes and cookies which, let's be real here, often are not all that healthy. I don't care who you are, we are human and we have a finite amount of will power. So what's a girl to-do when she has had 5 servings (after the first) of puppy chow?? (For those of you who may not know, puppy chow is a gift straight from the heavens! It is cereal coated in chocolate and peanut butter and tossed in powdered sugar. I honestly cannot control myself around it!)
What do you do when you overindulge and over do it?
Well first...stop the eating. If you find yourself in a situation where you know you have gone a little overboard remove yourself from the food OR have the food removed from you, literally. My husband and I made a pact that if the other one asks us to take food away from us in these situations we do it without question! There are just some times we need a friend to help us out!
Drink extra water. You are going to want to help your body flush out the extra sugars or carbohydrates and your body will need the extra water to do so. Also it will help your digestive track get working...if you know what I mean.
Get in a serious sweat session! The next day I recommend doing a pretty intense cardio work out for about 30-40 minutes. Something like a HIIT work out (I like TurboFire or Insanity Max 30). This will help your body detox with the increased sweat.
Cut back on meat, dairy and sugar the next 2-3 days. Give your digestive system a break the next few days and cut out meats, dairy and processed carbohydrates. These items can be hard digest or spike your blood sugar which after overindulging is the last thing your body needs. Increase your greens and fiber. The fiber will help you fight inflammation, keep you feeling satisfied as you cut out meat and will give you nutrients your body needs! Forgive yourself! This may be the hardest step of all. We are human and are not perfect. Give yourself some grace. Use this as a time of learning. Maybe even journal about why this happened so you can be more prepared and aware the next time you are in the same situation. Then move on. Forget about it. One crazy night will not derail all of your efforts the same way one day of eating healthy doesn't make you fit. I hope these tips help you if you wake up one morning after one too many cheeseballs or sugar cookies. Rest assured, we have all been there. Now you know what to do if it happens again.
